Flexy Alginate Dressing
A highly absorbent calcium alginate dressing for moderate to heavily exuding or bleeding wounds, available as a flat dressing or as a ribbon for cavities.
Overview
Flexy Alginate is a highly absorbent calcium alginate dressing for moderate to heavily exuding or bleeding wounds. On contact with wound exudate the alginate forms a soft gel that maintains a moist wound-healing environment and conforms to the wound contour. A ribbon format is available for packing cavity wounds.
Indications
For moderate to heavily exuding or bleeding wounds, including leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers, cavity wounds, post-operative wounds, traumatic wounds, and superficial and deeper chronic wounds. The dressing can also help manage minor wound bleeding.
Key features
- Forms a soft gel on contact with exudate
- Maintains a moist wound-healing environment
- Conforms to the wound contour
- Atraumatic removal
- Ribbon format available for cavity wounds
- Helps manage minor wound bleeding
Directions for use
Clean the wound according to standard practice. Apply the dressing to the wound, or pack a cavity using the ribbon, and secure with an appropriate secondary dressing. On dry or lightly exuding wounds the dressing may be moistened with normal saline. The dressing can remain in place for several days depending on the level of exudate; change it once it has fully gelled. Any residual fibres are easily removed by irrigation. Refer to the Instructions for Use for full directions.
Contraindications and precautions
Do not use on patients with a known allergy to any of the dressing’s components. Wounds with impaired healing should be medically assessed; the dressing does not replace treatment of the underlying cause. On full-thickness second- and third-degree burns, use under medical supervision following debridement of necrotic tissue or surgery. Dispose of used dressings in accordance with local regulations. No side effects have been reported.
